OpenPecs (Professional EDI Claims System) is a free, open-source, HIPAA-compliant 837P EDI translator and claims management system — a low-cost alternative to expensive commercial EDI solutions.
What is OpenPecs?
Is your office still shuffling HCFA paper claims? Still looking up HCPCS codes in printed books, or calling insurance companies at month-end for claim statuses? OpenPecs solves all of this. PECS takes the HCFA-1500 forms you already know and puts them on screen — then instead of mailing paper, it generates and sends an ANSI X12 5010 837P EDI file directly to the payer of your choice, fully automated and HIPAA-compliant.
The system includes a complete database engine with two core modules — the HCFA GUI and the EDI 837 Generation engine — plus a full audit table, role-based user security, and everything you would expect from a much more expensive EDI platform.
